Where Does the Name ALTA Come From?

The name ALTA carries personal meaning from its origins. The previous owner, JC, drew inspiration from two places. First, from Alturas, California—his mother’s hometown, a place filled with beauty and fond memories. Second, from the word Altitude- a reflection of the joy and freedom found in the mountains, whether skiing, hiking, or cycling.

Our Beginnings

ALTA Fitness was established in 2013 with a clear and passionate vision: to help people become fitter, healthier, and happier. What began as ALTA Sports Specific Training soon grew into a welcoming boutique studio in Mont Albert, Melbourne.

From the start, ALTA’s philosophy was simple yet powerful—no gimmicks, no franchise restrictions, just honest, personalised coaching. JC and Linda, husband and wife and co-founders of the studio, poured their energy and passion into helping members reach their best, both in health and performance. Their commitment built a strong, loyal community and a studio known for its genuine care.

A New Chapter

In June 2025, ALTA Fitness entered an exciting new chapter with the transition of ownership to Jiryes.

Jiryes brings both academic expertise and a fresh perspective to the business. He holds a degree in Biomedicine and Exercise & Sport Science, majoring in Exercise Physiology, and works from a foundation of evidence-based training, chronic condition prevention, and holistic wellness.

While this change marks a new stage in ALTA’s journey, the core values remain unchanged. Like JC and Linda, Jiryes believes fitness should be inclusive, supportive, and personalised—available to people of every age, background, and stage of life.

Under his leadership, ALTA’s proud legacy of community and care will continue to thrive, while introducing new science-driven approaches that empower clients to build resilience, reduce risk of injury, and live stronger, healthier lives.

Fitter. Healthier, Happier

We warmly welcome you to ALTA Fitness soon!

  1. I was an early client of JC’s in Soda Springs and Sacramento, California, USA. He’s a great trainer and started me on a journey that continues to the present day in my 70s. I’m so glad to see that he is continuing with his work.
